Suzu Akio, who is 32 years old, has a strong aversion to interacting with others, yet he enjoys smoking, drinking, and the company of cats. In a town overshadowed by a mountain that showers it with ashes, Suzu's life remains monotonous, and he allows time to flow without any desire to change his circumstances.
One day, while he was delivering goods to a customer he regularly serves, an individual arrived who would disrupt his life: Yutaka, the nephew of the couple, who has traveled from Tokyo. Yutaka makes an effort to penetrate the emotional barriers that Suzu has built in his rejection of human relationships.
This narrative presents a touching, poignant, and somewhat bittersweet tale of platonic love shared between two socially awkward men.
