“Prince Kyong… you are alive.” The fiancé she thought had perished five years ago stands in front of her. “Yes. I have returned to kill you.” His gaze is filled with nothing but animosity towards her. Sofa is the daughter of Emperor Songmun of the Sonyang Kingdom — a ruler so filled with suspicion that he would eliminate his own brothers to secure his throne. When political adversaries frame the family of Won-i, the son of the loyal retainer Baek-jong who was supposed to marry Sofa, the entire household is unjustly accused of treason. Sofa fought fervently to save her fiancé, but constrained by imperial decree, she could only watch in despair as his family was annihilated. Upon hearing that Won-i’s head had been exhibited in the town square, she attempts to join him in death — but fails. From that moment onward, she exists as if she were a corpse. Her elder brother Yu-jong, who ascends to the throne and wields true power, has always harbored resentment towards Sofa. By using the surviving mother and sister of Won-i as leverage, he coerces Sofa into a humiliating marriage to a man of low status, dragging her life through the mud. Five years later, a rebellion arises against the oppressive Yu-jong — and Won-i, who everyone thought was dead, returns to the palace as a hero. However, the happiness of their reunion is fleeting. The man she once cherished announces that he has come back to kill her, shattering her heart once more.
